(2003 Vintage) Bright, dark red. Subdued but complex nose offers raspberry, red cherry, rose petal and smoky underbrush; lovely lift and perfume. Sweet and vinous, with excellent energy and cut to the red fruit and floral flavors. Very fine-grained, fresh wine that really transcends the vintage. Finishes with firm but noble tannins and terrific subtle persistence. This was even more brisk with extended aeration, suggesting that it will be better for a bit of patience.

(2003 Vintage) The 2006 Brunello di Montalcino saturates the palate with deep layers of dark red fruit, violets, new leather and spices. The aromas and flavors grow beautifully with air, showing remarkable intensity all the way through to the expansive, textured finish. This is a brilliant effort from Giancarlo Pacenti. The Brunello saw 18-20 days on the skins, followed by malolactic fermentation and aging in French oak barrels, of which roughly 80% were new. The vineyard sources are approximately 4.5 hectares in Sant'Angelo and Piancornello (in the south of Montalcino) and 5 hectares in Pelagrilli read more...(in the north). Anticipated maturity: 2016-2026. (hide)

(2001 Vintage) Rating: 93/100 - As reviewed by International Wine Cellar in Issue 127, July/August 2006 ($75) Deep, bright red. Exotic aromas of raspberry liqueur, roasted coffee and mocha. Lush, large-scaled, dense and sappy, with a compelling sweetness; really expands in the mouth. Perhaps a bit obvious and full-blown but sound acids give this wonderfully smooth, rich, fairly primary wine plenty of shape and sex appeal.
