2004 Bodegas Valdemar Conde de Valdemar Reserva Rioja

Wine Description

(From 2007 Vintage) The 2007 Conde de Valdemar Reserva has a textbook nose of balsamic and spicy notes, dried herbs, pepper, a hint of mint, leather and smoke perfectly integrated with the red and black fruit. The palate shows a juicy, tasty wine, more spicy than fruity, clean and balanced.

Winemaker's Notes

(From 1994 Vintage) Great aromatic intensity, with balance between wood, vanilla and tobacco. Elegant and round in the mouth with a tannic touch that forecasts a good evolution. A blend of 80% Tempranillo and 20% Mazuelo grapes, aged 27 months in oak.

90 points, Wine Advocate February 2009 "The 2004 Reserva is a blend of 90% Tempranillo and 10% Mazuelo aged for 18 months in French and American oak. Dark crimson-colored, it reveals an alluring nose of cedar, spice box, tobacco, black cherry, and blackberry. On the palate it displays considerable finesse along with plenty of ripe, spicy red and black fruit, a silky texture, and excellent balance. This lengthy effort will continue to evolve for another 2-3 years and offer prime drinking from 2011 to 2020."

Dark red. Smoky redcurrant and dark cherry aromas are complemented by tobacco, oak spice and dried flowers; smells like a maturing Bordeaux Dusty red fruit flavors gain sweetness in the mid-palate and pick up darker fruit and licorice qualities. The sweet finish features cherry and dried herb flavors and good grip
