(From 2005 Vintage) Good deep red-ruby. Dark berries, black cherry and licorice on the nose, with a less exaggerated oak element despite the fact that this was aged in 95% new American barrels. With laid-back flavors of currant, plum and tobacco leaf. Finishes with substantial, slightly dry tannins and good persistence.
Tight, earthy and unusually tannic for this wine, with fresh earth, mineral and dried currant fruit shaded by a dill-coconut flavor.
(2006) built around creamy mocha, cedary oak and dill flavors, with dried currant, sage and underbrush notes. full bodied and balanced, this smoothes out on the finish where it gains a black licorice and mineral edge. decant. source: WS
Had with a standing rib roast and roasted vegetables. We let it breathe for about an hour and then decanted. While very good it seemed a bit tired/possibly past it's peak.
