Château Branaire-Ducru Saint-Julien

Wine Description

Opulent aromas of blackberry, olives and toasted oak follow through to a full-bodied palate, with big chewy tannins and a long, long finish.

Hazy, dark purple, faulty, full body, spice and black fruit aroma, off-dry, medium acidity, tannin still strong but smooth, black fruit and red fruit flavor, spice, a bit herb taste, long length. A balance wine with fruity charter. overall it is a good wine with strong St Julian style. after breathing for an hour, tannin become smoother and so as the body. Seems too young and can keep for some more time.

(2006 Vintage) Bright red-ruby. Pure, high-pitched nose offers blueberry, dark chocolate, menthol and cedary oak. Suave, sweet and serious, with lovely inner-mouth lift and energy and sneaky density of texture. Hints of pepper and herbs serve to perk up the wine. Not a particularly chocolatey style for Branaire. Finishes with a lovely light touch and plenty of structure for a leisurely evolution in bottle.
  • Connoisseurs' Guide to California Wines
(2006 Vintage) 70% Cabernet Sauvignon; 22% Merlot; 5% Cabernet Franc; 3% Petit Verdot. It is easy to be drawn in by this bottling's complex aromas and nicely layered flavors of currants, cherries and stony soil, and the wine conveys a good sense of richness and depth, but intrusive tannins presently dry out its finish and mandate at least five years of age.
