Opus One thinned the 2002 vintage to the lowest per-acre yield in a decade, encouraging quality and concentration of flavors. The 2002 Opus One shows aromas of dried strawberry, vanilla bean and mocha with flavors of cassis, black cherry, plum and espresso. Offering a lean, vibrant entry with profound mid-palate density, the wine finishes with bittersweet chocolate and a hint of smoke.
International Wine Cellar(1996 Vintage) Rating: 92/100 - As reviewed by International Wine Cellar in Issue 90, May/June 2000. Bright full ruby-red. Pungent black raspberry, leather, game, chocolate, espresso, pepper and fresh herbs. Juicy, bright and very concentrated, with crunchy currant, tobacco and dark chocolate flavors supported and amplified by a firm spine of acidity. Long on personality. Finishes with dusty tannins and excellent length.
Robert Parker(2000 Vintage)
International Wine Cellar(2000 Vintage) Deep red-ruby. Somewhat herbaceous aromas of leather and smoke. Lush and silky in the middle palate, with strong game and smoke notes but little sign of primary fruit. Then finishes with an offputtingly dry edge. A disappointing vintage for this wine.
