Bright ruby. Smoky, floral-accented aromas of redcurrant, cherry pit and plum, with a peppery topnote. Sweet and open-knit, offering musky red fruit and floral pastille flavors and notes of mocha and succulent herbs. Shows very good depth and power for the vintage, finishing smooth, sweet and long. Not the greatest Vega by any means but highly successful for 2002.
Profound fruit bouquet of dried fruit, black elderberry and ginger bread reminiscent, subtle notes of honey woods behind it. Velvety texture and complex forest berry fruit in delicate creamy palate, reminiscent of big Richebourg, malty extract and wonderful fruit freshness in the elegant center, jelly-like fruit of currants, juniper and canned cherries reminiscent, accompanied by sweet tobacco and cinnamon chocolate, much nobility to the minute-long lingering final.
International Wine Cellar(1995 Vintage) Rating: 94/100 - As reviewed by International Wine Cellar in Issue 128, September/October 2006. ($335) Dark red. Intense, expressive aromas of blackberry, blueberry, cherry liqueur, sandalwood, cigar box, roasted coffee and exotic chocolate. Thick and sweet, with deep red and dark berry flavors complicated by an array of pungent spices, mocha, vanilla bean and cured tobacco. Deep, penetrating and very long on the finish, with wonderfully sweet cherry and blackcurrant flavors lingering. Built to age, but this is awfully delicious right now. (Europvin USA, Oakland, CA)
