(2000 Vintage) This, almost extremely ostentatious wine will have its detractors, but as far as pleasure is concerned, there is no criticism to be made.Strong ruby-purple color, it is clearly well endowed, sugary and generously woody, literally oozing with extracted richness.Averagely robust, it displays in its strong and massive finale some moderately aggressive tannins.Rich and concentrated overall, it will be at its best after laying down for 3 to 5 years. This tobacco-scented bottling comes with complexing notes of loam and forest-floor spice, but it is somewhat less generous in the fruity succulence one wants in wines governed by Merlot, and, even though St. Emilion need not mirror Napa, big-time success requires a little more fruit than shown here.
