Following three consecutive classic, long-lived vintages, 1997 presented more challenges due to a cool, wet growing season which delayed maturation and threatened grape condition. A very warm September and easrly October ripened the remaining healthy grapes, which upon careful selection produced a seductive, velvety, open wine in the classic Pesquera style. Drinking well early, and will develop in bottle for five to ten years.

International Wine Cellar(2005 Vintage) Youthful purple. Deeply scented aromas of ripe dark berries and plum are complemented by roasted coffee and road tar. Serious, brooding plum jam and kirsch flavors in conjunction with low acidity and solid tannins make for tough sledding right now. Finishes ripe and full, with sappy cling and a lingering plummy character. This needs grilled red meat.
