Château Grand-Puy-Lacoste Pauillac 5ème Grand Cru Classé
A concentrated wine of good color, Grand-Puy-Lacoste has enjoyed a solid reputation for big, durable full-bodied Pauillacs. 75% Cabernet Sauvignon, 25% Merlot.
International Wine Cellar(2002 Vintage) Good red-ruby. Black fruits, licorice and shoe polish, with a light roasted note. Then dry, inky and penetrating, with medicinal black fruits and nutty oak showing. Finishes with dusty, even tannins and an edge of acidity. Classic, rather austere Pauillac, with moderate texture and ripeness.
Wine Advocate(2002 Vintage) Rating: (85-87) - As reviewed in Wine Advocate # 149 on Oct-03
International Wine Cellar(2006 Vintage) Good dark red. Perfumed, ineffable aromas of currant, cherry skin, floral oils and incense. Then juicy and penetrating on the palate, with excellent concentration and thrust to the soil-inflected flavors of currant, minerals and iron. Very suave, pure wine with the structure to age.
