Wine Description
December 1989 was the first rainless December in this century, and only 18 inches of rain had fallen since the previous July. As the month of May began, the season appeared to be headed toward drought. The 4 inches of rain at the end of May saved the vintage. August and September were neither too hot, nor too cool, and allowed the fruit to ripen slowly and fully, with well-balanced acid and mature tannins. International Wine CellarRating: 93/100 - As reviewed by International Wine Cellar in Issue 85, July/August 1999. Deep red-ruby. Knockout, Bordeaux-like aromas of cherry syrup, plum, chocolate, mocha and brown spices, plus a faint vegetal complexity. Sweet, smooth and ripe, if not quite as dense as the extraordinary '91. Excellent acidity gives the flavors lovely clarity. Finishes firmly tannic and very long. Extremely suave wine.
