Chateau Montelena Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley

Wine Details

Wine Description

(1990 Vintage) There is the trademark Montelena earthy, berry fruit, smoky and rich with many subtleties. On the palate it has a big juicy front, a very full texture and many layers of flavors in a rich cross section of fruit and terroir.

Tasted by KSWinegeek on 8/7/2011 & rated 95 points: Extraordinary bottle of wine. Dark in color. Opens with tobacco, cedar and smoke nose reminiscent of Bordeaux. But more black cherry fruit on palate and on finish and more muscular than a Bordeaux. One could hold this longer, but so very enjoyable now. Opened to celebrate my son Kevin's 21st birthday. Just the right balance of fruit and tannin/leather. (1178 views) Tasted by mxpbuy on 8/2/2011 & rated 95 points: Sampled 8/1/11. Decanted about 30 minutes. Took another 45 to fully open. Very little sediment. Dark color. A little Bordeaux funk. Excellent layers of blackberries, black currant, some black cherries, dusty tannins, dried herbs and hints of mint and cedar. Still another 5+ years on this one. (1106 views)
