La Frenz Winery Liqueur Muscat
Expert Reviews
  • Appellation America
According to the La Frenz winery, this fortified wine may be a Canadian first. Winemaker Jeff Martin has been inspired by the famous Rutherglen Muscats, iconic wines in his native Australia. Remarkably, Martin has been able to grow and source enough Muscat varieties in British Columbia to make this wine. The 2006 vineyard census showed only 24 acres of Muscat varieties, along with equal plantings of Muscat-like varieties (Schönburger, Siegerrebe). The La Frenz clone of a fortified Muscat is a credible echo of Rutherglen. The wine begins with aromas of spice and raisin pie. On the palate, there read more...are flavours of raisins, orange peel and spicy fruitcake that are sinfully delicious. The texture is luscious and the finish is very long, with a touch of heat from the wine’s 18.5% alcohol. 89 points.    (hide)
