(2013 Vintage) Fortunati malbec makes its debut in the fantastic 2013 vintage, the first estate wine we’ve made from this juicy, expressive variety. The color is deep purple on the rim and a deeper blue-black in the center of the glass. Right out of the bottle, the nose combines blue and black berries, hints of grilled stone fruit, and a huge array of non-fruit characteristics: savory herbs and roasted pepper, followed by a discreet earthiness and a touch of meatiness. The flavors are similarly complex. Bright, luscious black cherry and blueberry evolve into spiced cherry cola, roasted herbs, and grilled meat. The wine’s tannins are very integrated, and it displays well-balanced acidity, both hallmarks of the excellent vintage. As with the best examples in Argentina, our malbec has great length and lift on the palate and is made for red meat. Additionally, it will be a wine to cellar for five-plus years.
