  • Connoisseurs' Guide to California Wines
(2000 Vintage) Smelling of minerals, pencil lead, clay and coffee yet never losing sight of underlying elements of currants and dried plums, this very solid, slightly chunky wine sports the emphatic ripeness common to California and, in fact, shows a familiar note of heat and tannic coarseness on the palate. It is long on richness, but a little short on polish, but it gets good marks for stamina, and it promises to be around for many years to come.
  • International Wine Cellar
(2000 Vintage) Rating: 89-92 - As reviewed by International Wine Cellar in Issue 96, May/June 2001. Medium bright ruby. Superripe, liqueur-like aromas of red berries, roast coffee, tobacco and roasted stones. Chewy, very intense, slightly roasted flavors fill the mouth. Almost exotically ripe. Finishes with big, chewy tannins and excellent persistence. A very strong vintage for this wine.
  • Decanter
(2001 Vintage) Rating: 3/5 - As reviewed by Decanter. Good ripe colour, ripe tobacco-cassis fruit, and even a little over-ripe in this range. Good plummy fruit, wood a little evident and not very long behind the fruit, but an attractive wine. (Tasted en primeur)
