(2008 Vintage) Argentina may be renowned for its Malbec; however, to my delight, after tasting the 2005 and now the 2007 vintage, I am praying they do not pull up any Cabernet vines! Maipe also makes excellent Malbec and Bonarda, but their Cabernet is one of those rare finds in the wine world - try a bottle and then stock up with a case. This red has everything you'd find in a $20 California offering. Plush, fruit-forward, but with fresh herbs, licorice and vanilla adding to the complexity - really mind-boggling how Maipe can produce such depth in a wine at this price point.
