(2010 Vintage) Deep purple, aromas of of blackcurrent, plum, spice, and tobacco. Heavy bodied, nice splash of acidity and chewy tannins. Drink 2015-2020.
18 year old, but in excellent condition having been well looked after. Tasted alongside the 2012 current release and a 2006 "Vintage Release" 1996 Impressive colour, ie still dark red with no immediately apparent discoloration. Real complexity on the nose, cigar box and some truffle complexity, remnants if vanillin oak...savoury fruit on the palate, with still present fruit and oak tannins. Nothing revelatory on the palate before breathing, even though it's still in good shape. Would complement a good cheese perfectly. 2012 has sweet blueberries on the nose, and a sweet palate with chalky tannins. Purple hues. 2006 probably the most complex of them all. Dense palate of dark berries with well integrated oak.
Savoury black fruit with a satisfying meaty note on the mid-palate. Cassis and blackberry tickle the senses and lead into a long smoky finish. Such great finesse and elegance in a wine known for being all upfront with fruit. Sample and see that winemaker Sue Hodder has a special kind of genius when it comes to cool-climate Australian red wines. Drink: 2013-2016. Score - 92.
