(2012 Vintage) Gnarly Head Old Vine Zinfandel makes a bold statement at first sip. Our quest for outstanding Zinfandel led us down a country road into the heart of Lodi, California revealing a sea of gnarled, 35 – 80 year-old vines pruned in a special, mop-topped way called "head trained". True gnarly heads, these old vines yield fewer grape clusters with smaller berries than trellised vines. These mighty little berries produce intense, bold wines that are deep in color with concentrated dark fruit flavors.
Something in the taste and nose of this wine is off - putting to me. Didn't even finish the glass.
Boring. A bit bitter. None of the complexity, jammy softness that I like in Zins.
Very strong alcohol taste. Not very smooth. Hints of leather and smoke.
Great red for enjoying by itself or with smokey BBQ or spicy dishes.
Great for sangria. Quite boozy. Rubbing alcphol and leather smell.
earthy and deep, a hint of spice balanced with subtle vanilla
Very approachable zin. Pairs really well with a savory dish.
Not too dry, not too sweet, Goldilocks!
Smokey and a little tang and very good
A bit grape juicy. $9.99 in borough.
difficult to say... unique one.
Zin better Than merlot
