2011 Stag's Leap Wine Cellars Artemis Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley

Wine Description

(From «nv» Vintage) Aromas of cassis and caramel rise and give way to earthy notes of black olive, black pepper, and truffles. Classic flavors of cassis and black cherry fill the mouth as notes of violets and vanilla linger on the finish.Enjoy this wine with braised short ribs on a cold winter's night or with a porcini and gorgonzola burger for you gourmet grillers.

Winemaker's Notes

(From 2010 Vintage) "This Artemis Cabernet Sauvignon offers pleasing aromas of black cherries, red plums, violets, nutmeg and sandalwood along with hints of dried herbs. The cherry and plum notes carry over onto the palate and combine with ripe, mixed berries. The wine has a smooth, supple entry with good mid-palate structure and fine-grained tannins that lead to a lingering berry-cherry finish." - Stag's Leap

Stag's Leap Wine Cellars and owner Warren Winarski can arguably claim to have put Napa Valley wines on the world map. It was 37 years ago when Stag's Leap Cabernet won the famous Judgment in Paris Tasting in May 1976, beating out the best classified Bordeaux made the world stop and look to Napa Valley. A third of a century later they're still producing some of the best wines in the world. The quality and character of the Stag's Leap wines also lead to the Stags Leap District being granted AVA status. That quality carries through their entire line and shows through in Artemis, their Napa Valley Cab that's a blend of estate grapes from Fay, SLV and Arcadia vineyards with grapes from other top quality Napa growers throughout the valley. 86% Cabernet Sauvignon and 14% Merlot, aged 16 months in 35% new French oak. In 2011 Stag's Leap Wine Cellars reduced production dramatically to focus on creating the best quality wine. Grapes were ha n d selected in the vineyards and the winery allowed only the healthiest fruit in the final sort. This 2011 won a Gold Medal at the Dallas Wine Competition and a Silver Outstanding Medal at the International Wine & Spirit Competition in London.
