Far Niente Winery is located in Oakville, an area famous for Napa Valley Cabernet, and home to our estate Martin Stelling Vineyard from which we’ve been producing our Cabernets since 1982. The abundant 2013 vintage is approachable, even in its youth, with bold, ripe, fruit and mouth-filling tannins typical of the Far Niente house style. A wet December gave way to a rainless January and February, and dry, warm weather extended into the spring. These conditions encouraged early bud break and bloom, and we enjoyed great set with beautiful uniformity in our Cabernet fruit. Summer started with a brief heat spike in early July; perfect ripening weather followed throughout September. September 20th marked the first day of harvest – just as we were finishing our Chardonnay harvest. We steadily brought in red fruit until mid-October, when cooler night and morning temperatures slowed ripening. These ideal end-of-harvest temperatures yielded grapes with incredible concentration of flavor, color and tannin. The Far Niente Cabernet Sauvignon presents dusty chocolate and black cherry aromas layered with subtle floral notes and oak. The entry is velvety and intense, revealing dark cherry and boysenberry notes married with toasted oak and light licorice. This is an elegantly structured wine with silkiness through the midpalate and a persistent, juicy finish. Deep, coating Oakville tannins ensure that this wine will age beautifully in the cellar.
