2011 Domaine de la Pepiere Muscadet Sevre et Maine Sur Lie

Wine Description

(From 2010 Vintage) A great archetype of Muscadet. I love being with wine trade people or even wine snobs and pulling out a Muscadet, one of the great terroir wines of France, and they try Pepiere’s Clos de Briords and they understand what you are talking about.

Winemaker's Notes

Marc Ollivier's hand-crafted Muscadet has extended lees contact (in fact a rarity), giving his carefully-prepared wine the extra flavor, body, and crispness that makes it so refreshing. In addition, 40+ year-old vines, hand-harvesting, and natural yeast fermentation all add up to a major league, "soulful" Muscadet!

Deep in color, this is a round and supple Muscadet with honeyed scents of orange and mineral salts. It grows more complete with air, as flavors of lotus root and pale white fruit fill out the finish, sustained by the wine’s acidity. Ollivier takes his time, even leaving this, the "entry level" Muscadet, on its lees for an extended period of time to accentuates the wine's inherent crispness and add complexity.

I can't stop thinking about this wine. This is the "real" stuff. Great, refreshing acidity with wonderful layers of minerality.

Amazing acidity, sur lies, perfect summer, crisp, refreshing. Citrus, minerality, apple, dough.
