Winemaker's Notes

Last week we attended a tasting featuring the finest of Sauvignon Blanc from around the world. Chile, California, Loire Valley, Australia and of course New Zealand were all represented at this event. Having tasted through each and every wine at the event, we unanimously decided that the wine of the show was Dashwood Sauvignon Blanc 2006 (90 PTS WINE SPECTATOR) from Marlborough, New Zealand. New Zealand is making the finest Sauvignon Blanc in the world today. Crisp, clean, refreshing and zesty, these are the characteristics we love about great quality Sauvignon Blanc and this is what Dashwood read more...Sauvignon Blanc is all about; a beautiful, energizing white wine that is absolutely perfect for the summer. Lovers of great Sauvignon Blanc, get your glasses ready, cause at $13.99 this is the best Sauvignon Blanc we have tasted this summer. Tasting Notes: The nose is intense and fragrant with ripe stone fruit and herbaceous flavours with a touch of asparagus indicating the wine is starting to develop tertiary flavours. Focused and ripe, with outstanding intensity of lime juice, guava, grapefruit and stone fruit flavors, wrapped with pointed minerality and lingering sweet pea notes. The palate is still fresh, however, with vibrant, fruity mouth feel and succulent acidity that make this a delicious wine to drink now. (hide)

Critical acclaim: Light-bodied, with vivid passion fruit, lime and fresh herb and cut grass notes. Refreshing acidity gives this plenty of momentum on the finish. 88 Points Wine Spectator Pale bright yellow. Pungent aromas of tropical fruits, pepper and smoke. The palate offers decent concentration to the flavors of grapefruit pith and white pepper, with a repeating suggestion of tropical fruits. The moderately persistent finish shows more saline minerality than fruit. 87 Points International Wine Cellar

Rating: 88/100 - As reviewed by Wine & Spirits Magazine on 10/09. This wine's zesty grapefruit and passionfruit flavors emphasize the fresh, citrusy side of sauvignon. A little light in the aroma and finish, this makes a good aperitif with any raw shellfish.
