  • Connoisseurs' Guide to California Wines
(2003 Vintage) Compact and undeveloped in the nose with glimmers of cassis sitting beneath its top notes of dusty spice, this wine starts out with a bit of glyceriney roundness on the palate but snaps shut as mouth-drying tannins come to the fore. Its astringency calls for considerable age, but its essential fruit seems a little light for optimistic keeping.
