Winemaker's Notes

Relentless offers dense, enticing aromas and flavors of purple/black fruit, smoked meat, spice, incense, black plums and berry. Even at this young age it offers elegance wrapped in extract, with ripe tannins and good structure for aging. In the mouth it's full and rich from the first taste through the long finish.

WS 96; Top 100: 1; full & distinct w/ loads of berry and charcoal, blk cherry, rasberry and licorice. shows muscle, density, richness and range of Shafer, but takes to new level. Best Relentless yet. Syrah and petite syrah. best thru '23; 3,300 cases

First real taste of Syrah. Different flavor/taste than the Cab's but enjoyable. Need to have more of this before I can decide.

Very smooth but deep. Not super complex. But it lingers in a good way.

An expressive, full-bodied, smoky, flamboyant, intense effort that is more evolved and approachable than vintages such as 2003 and 2001, it is a stunningly aromatic, rich wine to drink over the next 10-15 years."

(From 2001 Vintage) 19% Petite Sirah. "Relentless" would seem a good name for a Syrah that just keeps on coming at you with concentrated, deep, compelling blackberry aromas tinged with notes of creme brulee, espresso and saddle leather. It is full in body and certainly high in tannin, yet it never loses focus or continuity, and its finish is as tasty as its fancy beginnings. There is no faulting the youthful rusticity that is so evident at this point, but a half decade of quiet cellaring will see the wine open up an...
