One of the oldest winegrowing regions in the state, Contra Costa County is home to ancient, gnarly vines deeply rooted in sandy loam soils. The warm days are influenced by cool delta breezes that give this area a distinct ripe-fruit profile, highlighted by pepper and chocolate spices. To create a Zinfandel representative of this unique region, we used a blend of fruit from five vineyards in Contra Costa County, combining old, head-pruned vines with newer plantings of Zinfandel to build layers of flavor and depth.
Connoisseurs' Guide to California Wines(2006 Vintage) Ripe to the point of suggesting a bit of desiccation in the grapes, this wine, as it has in the past, finds enough underlying fruit to hold onto its role as an accompaniment to savory grilled meats and stews. It does not need much by way of cellar aging and is ready to be enjoyed without further delay. GOOD VALUE
