Intense aromas of raspberry-cream, strawberry and rose petal, mix with a delicate balance of the varietals typical pepper notes. Sunny black raspberry and blackberry flavors come up against an edge of mineral tannin, potent enough to cut the sweetness of the fruit while managing to lengthen its flavor. This is a firm zin, with enough refreshing acidity to match orecchiette with fennel sausage and broccoli rabe.
Connoisseurs' Guide to California Wines(From 2005 Vintage) Obvious ripeness, far more than fruit, decides the course of this loosely defined wine, but it drops a big step off the pace of its like-minded cousins in that it lacks sufficient center to buffer the coarsening effects its tongue-numbing tannins and its very stiff finishing acids.

Connoisseurs' Guide to California Wines(From 2006 Vintage) Although this wine sends slightly mixed messages with its rich, but slightly diffuse mix of ripe blackberries and stavey oak spice in the nose, it is focused and very solid once in the mouth with well-defined varietal fruit leading the way. Slightly rounded in feel, but fairly firm in overall balance, it is capable of improving for several years but will serve nicely now with savory pork roasts basted with Port or spiced honey.
