Winemaker's Notes

(From 2009 Vintage) Intense aromas and flavors of black currant and bilberry. Notes of peach, plum and a touch of pepper on the palate meld with hints of vanilla from oak aging.

Rating: 94pts Spectator and Spectator Top 100, 2012 A Great Buy From The Spectacular Key Vintage For 2013 2010 Tuscany Could Be the Finest Yet 94pts Spectator and Top 100 I have been raving about one of the key vintage releases this year that if you cellar wine must not be missed. If you want some of the finest wines being released this year, 2010 Tuscany Italy is a must. Parker's WA has declared that the 2010 Tuscans may well be the finest wines we will ever see from the region. I have had various winemakers visiting from the region and they absolultely rave about their 2010's. I am recommending diving into Tuscany 2010 this year. I have just received confirmation of one of the great buy Super Tuscans from this incredible vintage. The 2010 Brancaia Ilatria is a gorgeous red, 94pts Spectator and was just included in the Wine Spectator's Top 100 wines of 2012. The wine is a blend of Cabernet, Petit Verdot and Cabernet Franc. Brancaia is made by the great Carlo Ferrini who makes some of Tuscany's finest including Petrolo, Oreno La Massa and Casanova di Neri Brunello. His wines are all about opulence, richness, silk and satin, refined tannins and new French oak. Brancaia owns vineyards in the Classico zone as well as in the Maremma, the coastal part of Tuscany, more appropriate for Bordeaux varietals and the home to the finest Super Tuscans in the world, the likes of Sassicaia and Ornellaia, and where this awesome value comes from. Brancaia is recognized as one of the greatest wineries in Tuscany, if you love Super Tuscans, Brunello, Bordeaux and Napa Cabs, this wine will floor you. Again I do not have much to offer. A definite smart buy! Spectator lists at $60, by the case I can do at $49.99. Tasting Notes: This is pure and oh so silky, featuring flavors of black currant, violet and sweet spice, with a hint of tobacco. The supple texture is offset by refined tannins as this cruises to a long aftertaste of black currant and spice. Cabernet Sauvignon, Petit Verdot and Cabernet Franc. Best from 2014 through 2024.
