Wine Description

(From 2012 Vintage) No matter what the vintage, this wine is really more than 100 years old. It represents a family's journey to produce an Argentine Malbec that can stand with the great wines of the world. Malbec Argentino is a blend of Catena Zapata's historic Malbec vineyards Adrianna and Nicasia.

Winemaker's Notes

The 2010 Catena Malbec shows a deep violet color with purple tones. The nose offers concentrated aromas of ripe red and dark fruits with delicate floral notes like violets and lavender, and traces of vanilla and mocha. The mouthfeel is rich and concentrated, with blueberry and blackberry notes and a touch of leather and cinnamon. The finish presents well-integrated tannins with bright acidity and a flinty minerality that gives the wine exceptional length.

Catena Malbec presents a dark, violet color with deep black tones. This microclimate blend of four unique vineyard sites offers intense aromas with a soft generous texture and concentrated flavors. Angelica vineyard lends ripe plum and chocolate flavors with a very soft, supple mouthfeel. Altamira in La Consulta vineyard brings a core of black currant and cassis, with excellent structure and length. La Piramide vineyard offers blackberry fruit with a slight earthy tone and notes of spicy black pepper. Finally, the Adrianna vineyard lends exceptional concentration with explosive floral aromatics. Together they give birth to a complex blend of aromas and flavors - a wine with excellent concentration, balance and freshness.

The 2010 Catena Cabernet Sauvignon undergoes a five-day cold maceration and is raised for 12 to 14 months in barrel: first, second and third fill. It is a blend of four vineyards and is blended with 3% Cabernet Franc and 2% Petit Verdot. It has a Bordeaux-like bouquet of blackberry, bilberry, graphite and dry tobacco that is well-defined and classic in style. The palate is medium-bodied with grainy tannins. There is a palpable sense of tension to this Cabernet, which exhibits great precision on the spicy, edgy finish. Full of personality, this comes highly recommended. Drink now-2017. Score - 92. RP WA 91 pts WE 90 pts: Plenty of size, sweetness and fruit on the nose. Feels rich and ripe, with an exemplary weight-to-acid ratio. Tastes juicy, fruity and friendly, black licorice with dark chocolate finish. Properly blends Malbec's sweet and sultry sides. (High mtn vines)
