(From 1999 Vintage) Inky purple color. Cocoa powder and dark cherry on the nose. Dark fruit with hints of tobacco in the background.
JUICY: blueberry, cherry, chocolate, spicy
Rating: 86 A big fruity nose to start with plums and blueberries, peeled off to expose a lovely floral violet aspect. Unfortunately, 15 minutes in the glass did not do this nose justice, but I do appreciate that it doesn't have that all-too-common sickly overdone over-oaked Zinfandel aroma. Big extraction, nice balance. The 15% ABV is well hidden and it comes across quite soft. Nothing subtle about this wine and it does does get a little sticky for my taste at the end. A nice nose of fruit, continuing on the palate with some herbal notes as well. No alcohol burn. Very drinkable now. A lingering finish. Could have a little more depth.
