(From 2010 Vintage) The 2010 Robert Mondavi Private Selection Pinot Grigio begins with light aromas of citrus and pear along with some floral notes. The wine tastes fresh, light, and woody. The predominant flavors are grapefruit, pineapple and citrus. The finish is on the short side but no matter. This is an enjoyably simple and easy drinking wine.
After we gently crushed and destemmed the fruit, we fermented the must (juice and skins) in temperature-controlled tanks at 85°F until dry. Following fermentation, we kept the wine on the skins an additional 12 days to soften tannins and develop more complex flavors. One hundred percent of the wine underwent malolactic fermentation to enhance roundness and depth, aging 12 months in American and French oak to add a subtle toasty tone.
VISUAL - deep reddish purple / dark NOSE - dark berries; vanilla; cassis & oak TASTE - I actually get much of the oak & vanilla up front then the big berry fruit, but not too over powering. acidity balanced well - pairs excellent w/ food. decent tannins - moderate finish.
