(2009 Vintage) The Griffin – the Foley family crest in Irish heraldry combines the strengths of the lion, king of beasts, with the eagle, king of the skies – is a fitting representation of our signature red blend. Aromas suggest ripe and youthfully bright red cherries and raspberries. Even mid palate flavors of vanilla and butterscotch are framed with softly gripping tannins which resolve in a gently gripping finish. The extraordinary balance of elements of mid-palate, acid and tannin structure make for a versatile wine for pairing with an array of cuisines. The 2013 Griffin is a blend of Merlot, Petite Sirah, Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah, and Petit Verdot.

On the palate the wine shows big blackberry, cassis, and dark chocolate flavors, that combine with hints of graphite and mineral.

Wine & Spirits(2008 Vintage) The 2008 The Griffin is something new, an homage to Ireland consisting of 42% Petite Sirah, 40% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Charbono, and 8% Merlot. Beautiful black raspberry, blueberry, spicy, peppery fruit jump from the glass of this dense purple wine. Foley has somehow built considerable sweet tannin into the full-bodied, fleshy mouthfeel. This is something California needs to do more of - creative blends that are loaded with personality and soul. This wine is part Rhone Ranger and part classic Napa Cabernet. Drink it over the next decade.
