(2009 Vintage) After a good swirl, or a quick decant, the shy nose of gravelly earth, mushrooms, perfume and mint starts to emerge. On the palate, there's a mouthful of deep fruit that lasts long into the finish and is rounded out by subtle hints of French oak. We anticipate the '09 Sonoma Coast Pinot to start to open up by early 2012 and last right through the decade to 2020.
Connoisseurs' Guide to California Wines(2006 Vintage) It is as if the Freeman wines fell in pairs, because this one, like its mate above, has a fair bit of fruit on the good side of its ledger, but it finds a bit too much acid-driven narrowness on the other side of the scorecard. Admittedly, both this one and the Keefer Ranch bottling are acceptable wines and seem likely to be fully satisfying with lighter meals like veal roasts and chops or even a grilled salmon filet.
