(From 2012 Vintage) The Winter was standard, cold days and nights, some degrees below zero at times. The Spring was quite slow in showing itself, it was somewhat cool but also windy. The Summer came also quite late. Around February but it came in a strong way, that matured the grapes in a very fast way, the good news was that the skins were hard due to the winds in Spring, which gave us lovely tannins. The Harvest was sparsed with rainy spells, which is quite unsusal for the area and because of the sudden late heat, all the varietals (Pinot, Merlot, Cabernet, Malbec ) were all matured at the same time!! All in all you may find well structured wines but all the finesse that the cool nights provide. These 4 hectares of vines were planted in 1955, the vines are Massales selection original rootstocks, nothing clonal about these little vines, they are all genetically different from one another. The vineyard is composed of field mixed 95% Malbec and 5% Merlot. They are irrigated up to four times a year. The vines have received no treatment whatsoever, no sprays, no Copper Sulfate, nothing. This vineyard is certified Organic and Biodynamic, please see below.
(From 2010 Vintage) Wine Spectator Review Rated 95 Dense, but incredibly pure and driven, with graphite, mineral and red licorice notes driving the core of raspberry and boysenberry ganache. Long and superfresh on the finish. Rich but refined. This drinks like a Burgundy, but it's distinctly Malbec. Drink now through 2018.
