(From 2012 Vintage) The wine has a deep ruby red hue that is framed in rich crimson. Aromas of black cherry and plum, surrounded by roasted coffee beans and vanillin oak accents. The entry is powerful and lush with flavors of bing cherry, blueberry and cocoa. Soft and velvety tannins round out the finish making this wine approachable and inviting.
(From 2012 Vintage) Orin Swift's Prisoner is a rich, fruit forward wine with the ripe berry characteristics and balanced structure of previous vintages. Aromatically it may be the most complex and evolved vintage at this stage. The nose of this delicious wine is sweet ripe, quietly smoky and very attractively fruity, as hints of licorice root, black tea, vanilla and coffee toffee meld seamlessly with dark cherry, plum and blackberry scents in a forward and engaging mix. The wine is every bit as charming on the palate, where the creamy vanilla, toffee and black tea notes are reprised while the flavors shift toward pomegranate and red raspberry.
smooth, excellent "focused, rich and ripe, showing aromas of black cherry and smoky pepper with sleek but complex flavors of boysenberry, licorice, and toasty oak that linger with balanced tannins, Zinfandel, Cabernet Sauvignon, syrah, petite syrah, charbono and Grenache. drink now through 2015. 92 points Wine Spectator.
nose: demure and a bit musty. definitely not classic zin. flavor: wild, tannic, spicy, powerful, underleaf flavor. wonderful. tempting to pair with meat, but could go solo. intensely flavorful. actually blend with majority zin. made by Dave Phinney; new owner from 2009 vintage.
deep red color throughout. needs to breathe for 45 min. smell not strong but deep. smooth silky texture with choclate undertones. sweet beginning with long smooth finish. would pair well with smoky meat. beef. venison.

jammy black fruit, plum, white pepper, wet basement, soft fall leaves, touch of vanilla at the end lingers like a candy on roof of mouth, touch of nectarine.. so tempted to say floral. maybe violets at the end.
