(1999 Vintage) Moderately deep red-ruby. Strongly oaky chocolate, mocha, cedar and vanilla aromas overshadow cooked, tarry plum, prune and cassis fruit. The intense prune, plum and currant fruit at the front of the palate then taper out to a green-edged finish of steely acids and drying oak. Like many other wines from 1999, this shows both underripe and overripe aspects.

(2000 Vintage) Red-ruby. Roasted cassis and cola on the nose; more shiraz than syrah. Then fat and rich in the mouth, with flavors of dark berries and smoke. Distinctly saline but not a peppery style of syrah. Finishes nutty and rich, with big, dusty tannins and lingering sweet oak notes. Nicely lush wine, but not quite vibrant enough for outstanding.
