Wine Description

Fresh, bright berry fruit from our heritage Russian River vineyard combined with the ripe peppery jamminess from our Alexander Valley vineyards make for wonderful diversity of flavor showcasing the best that zinfandel can offer in one wine. Aging for 17 months in French and American oak enhances the zinfandel’s inherent spicy qualities, while the ebullient fruit of this medium rich wine suggests enjoyment over the next 2 to 4 years.

Winemaker's Notes

(From 1999 Vintage) The result is a radiant wine. The color, a deep red and violet rose, is matched only by a very perfumed nose. Intense aromas of raspberry-cream, strawberry and rose petal, mix with a delicate balance of the varietals typical pepper notes. An abundance of bright fruit flavors of cranberry, raspberry and blackberry mingle to make the middle palate round and firm while a hint of white pepper and sage finish long on the palate. A substantial meat dish like beef tenderloin with goat cheese and mustard...

  • Connoisseurs' Guide to California Wines
(From 2006 Vintage) Although this wine sends slightly mixed messages with its rich, but slightly diffuse mix of ripe blackberries and stavey oak spice in the nose, it is focused and very solid once in the mouth with well-defined varietal fruit leading the way. Slightly rounded in feel, but fairly firm in overall balance, it is capable of improving for several years but will serve nicely now with savory pork roasts basted with Port or spiced honey.
  • Connoisseurs' Guide to California Wines
(From 2005 Vintage) This lively young Chardonnay's basic themes of bright, green-apple fruit are underlain in both scent and taste by a mild streak of minerals, and, while never a broad or an especially expansive wine, it is well-balanced, keenly focused and fairly long on the palate. It will find its best place as a foil to meaty, white-fleshed fish courses.
  • Connoisseurs' Guide to California Wines
(From 2005 Vintage) Obvious ripeness, far more than fruit, decides the course of this loosely defined wine, but it drops a big step off the pace of its like-minded cousins in that it lacks sufficient center to buffer the coarsening effects its tongue-numbing tannins and its very stiff finishing acids.

(From 2007 Vintage) Rating: 90/100 - As reviewed by Wine & Spirits Magazine on 10/09. Sunny black raspberry and blackberry flavors come up against an edge of mineral tannin, potent enough to cut the sweetness of the fruit while managing to lengthen its flavor. This is a firm zin, with enough refreshing acidity to match orecchiette with fennel sausage and broccoli rabe.
