Needs decanting - after 3 hours it blossoms up with violets, candied cherries and a whiff of drying stone. Acidic but fresh, good fruit, strawberries, very understated roast notes, medium long finish. Very good effort, mencia tastes very different from what it is common on the market. Very Good wine, wonder how it will develop - think it will improve with age and a less attacking acidity. After 2 days still strong, now a little more silky...will improve. davestenton - 1/29/2012 Deep, dark red at the core but some signs of age at the rim. Fairly muted nose. There is some decent fruit here but it's pretty heavily masked by the oak. The tannins are a little grainy too; needs food. Becomes more generous with some time in the glass but, overall, it's a little hollow and one-dimensional. I drank a bottle of the not-quite-ready 2009 before Christmas and that had a lot more to offer. I've one bottle of the '08 left - I will decant that before drinking, as others have suggested here.
earthy, long finish, med tannins, red fruit, good for red meat, med - full body
