Wow. Nose goes right for the gusto with Anise and blackberry. Color is a hypnotizing dark, only purple. So many layers on the palate. Starts as you'd expect, with berry. But while lush, not overwhelmingly fruit forward. Smooth tannins move you to the next phase, more balanced and mellow. once you get to the long satisfying finish, you realize there's been a lovely undertone of coffee lingering around.
Connoisseurs' Guide to California Wines(2004 Vintage) 52% Cabernet Sauvignon; 26% Merlot; 21% Cabernet Franc; 1% Malbec. Clean and a bit mild given its ripeness and complex blend of varieties, this wine is full on the palate and sports a bit of curranty fruit along with hints of toasted herbs and chocolate. Its finishing tannins are firm but not aggressive or abrasive, and the wine is likely to drink well for the next several years alongside beef or lamb roasts.
