(From 2010 Vintage) Lucero is named for a star-like marking on a horse's forehead, and inspired by the stars still glistening in the early morning sky when we pick syrah at Kingston. Our Lucero Syrah is less intense than its big brother Bayo Oscuro, and is a blend of different parcels within the greater Kingston vineyard. Inky dark red, deeper in color than the CJs. Aromatically subtle until the usual notes of tapenade, blackberry and india ink start to emerge. Seamless on the palate, round and plush, but with a little acid kick on the finish that keeps it more light on its feet than you might expect from the aromas and the color
(From 2009 Vintage) The flavors of the Lucero are bold, with black fruits, smoky spices and a little meatiness, all typical of the Syrah from the Kingston vineyard. Maybe a little reminiscent of Cote Rotie, or perhaps Cornas, but equally New World in style, with ripe fruits and soft tannins.
