(From 2011 Vintage) Produced entirely from grapes we cultivate at our Home Ranch in eastern Santa Ynez Valley, our Estate Grown Merlot is a sumptuous red wine boasting fragrant black cherry and dark plum aromas mingled with appealing vanilla, milk chocolate and light herbal scents. Juicy and succulent on the palate, the wine’s concentrated dark cherry, plum and cassis flavors gain a zesty tea-leaf spice tone in the long, savory finish. Beautifully balanced, with supple tannins, our Merlot is delicious on release with poultry, duck, game and beef dishes, but it handsomely rewards an additional 3-4 years of bottle aging.
Boasting a rich ruby color and fresh, sweet-smelling black cherry, red plum and blackberry aromas — complemented by whiffs of mint, tobacco and rose hips — this generous red delivers rich, fruit-centered flavors of dark cherry, plum compote and spicy blackberry. In the long, savory finish, lovely cocoa and roasted coffee bean notes emerge, along with a black tea spiciness that gives the wine a zestful kick. Smooth, yet firmly structured, with supple, well-rounded tannins, our 2008 Merlot is a testament to the superb quality of an initially challenging vintage.
