Wine Description

(1996 Vintage) Deep, garnet hued wine full and rich cedar notes in the nose, leading to harmonious, full-bodied flavors of ripe, dark fruits and spice. Integrated with toasty woodnotes. Elegant.

Deep ruby color yields aromas of cedar, dark fruit, and currants. The tannins are smooth but firm with leather, blackberry jam, toast, and black currant. Long finish. Young, could go another decade easy.

(2006 Vintage) The same can be said for the 2007 Cabernet Sauvignon Atlas Peak. That vintage was so good, it is hard to hide all the fruit and character. The wine possesses a dark ruby/purple color, medium body, good elegance and a pleasant personality, but what might have been produced if they took the chains off? These wines should be better than they are. They seem like failsafe sort of efforts, designed for the uncritical shopper, but holding little interest for the serious wine lover. They are well-made and clean, but they are what I call a "single glass" style of wine. While there is nothing wrong with the first glass, there is not enough interest for a second. Actually that is an improvement for Clos du Val where the wines have gone through a sterile period that appears to be coming to an end.
