(2000 Vintage) This riserva exhibits brilliant ruby red hues and an ample bouquet of flowers and vanilla. Rich layers of ripe fruit are followed by hints of tobacco and a dry, almond-like finish.
Castellare di Castellina 2008 Chianti Classico 16 Drink 2010-2014 95% Sangiovese, 5% Canaiolo. Cask sample (13.5%?). Oenologist Alessandro Cellai and Maurizio Castelli. Medium crimson with lighter rim. Sweet, savoury cherry nose with a hint of oriental spice. Earthy too. Round, almost fleshy fruit palate (the fruit seems to be subdued, or toned down by something that is round and shows some MLF notes ie creaminess) and rustic stalky tannins. But retains good overall balance. Good length too. (WS)

Decanter(2001 Vintage) Rating: 4/5 - As reviewed by Decanter. 95% Sangiovese, 5% Cigliegiolo and Cannaiolo from a single vineyard. Wine with great varietal character, sapid cherry nose, slightly smoky. Well balanced on the palate between acidity, grippy tannins and fresh juicy fruit. A classy, elegant wine with a long, generous finish. Drink 2006-12.
