Wine Description

(2008 Vintage) COLOR: Dark cherry color with violet reflections. Clean and bright wine with a high robe. Dense and very slow-falling tears. NOSE: Clean and very intense nasal aromas which show a good balance between the intense notes of ripe red and black fruit and the nice toasted notes, which progressively turn into roasted aromas. Abundant spicy nuances (vanilla, nutmeg, pepper) are noticed along with some good notes of tobacco and leather and a subtle mineral hint. FLAVOR: Powerful and embracing attack. It shows a good load of fruit notes, well integrated notes of wood and some spicy hints. Its mid palate is tasty, fleshy and expressive. Sweet, polished and unctuous tannins and a good acidity. Great structure. Long and persistent finish.

(2003 Vintage) Bodegas Alion was started by the renowned estate of Vega Sicilia in 1991. Grapes are sourced from vineyards next to the winery and from Vega Sicilia's own vineyards at Valbuena. Eighteen hectares of Tinto Fino (Tempranillo) form the actual Alion estate. The 2004 Alion is inky purple-colored with an alluring perfume of toasty oak, lavender, violets, mineral, blackberry, and blueberry compote. This is followed by a full-bodied, rich, opulent, wine with incipient complexity, and notes of licorice, mocha, and espresso emerging on the palate. The lengthy finish is pure and persistent. Give it 3-5 years in the cellar and drink it through 2025.

(1997 Vintage) Full, deep ruby-red. More expressive, evolved aromas of redcurrant, leather, smoked meat and resiny oak. Smoke, game and cinnamon in the mouth; not quite up to the '98 in depth of flavor or grip.
