(2012 Vintage) Bloom in mid-June under sunny skies set a large crop that had to be thinned aggressively. Sunny and unusually dry weather persisted through the summer, bringing good fl avor and sugar development with no disease pressure. With no threat of rain during the harvest period we were able to pick all lots at perfect ripeness.
93 points from Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Bright ruby-red. Complex, spice-accented bouquet displays raspberry preserves, cherry-cola, potpourri and smoky minerals. Energetic and precise on the palate, offering juicy red and dark berry flavors that show impressive depth and energy. Gains weight with air, picking up a mocha note and finishing with impressive power and focus. I'd stash this away for at least five more years." (Jul/Aug '11) 92 points from Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2008 Pinot Noir Casteel Reserve is a blend of the winery’s best barrels. The process of selection must have been quite a task given the raw materials. The expressive bouquet of sandalwood, Asian spices, underbrush, rose petal, incense, and assorted black fruits leaps from the glass. On the palate it displays dense, succulent fruit, outstanding volume, precision, and balance. Give it 5-6 years in the cellar and drink it through 2028. Bethel Heights’ most recent collection is uniformly outstanding." (10/10) 92 points Wine Spectator: "This focused red shows a lively balance to the open-textured cherry, plum and cinnamon flavors, pointing into a juicy, expressive finish that's wrapped in fine tannins. Best from 2012 through 2018. 619 cases made." (12/10)
