(2007 Vintage) Two or three times a decade, Warre's judge that their wines are of such outstanding quality that they merit consideration to be 'declared' a vintage.
When such a wine becomes available it is sure to be a leader in its field. Warre's principal objective is to produce a vintage Port that continues the same superb reputation created by the great Warre's vintages of previous generations.
Wines of this quality are made using the traditional treading techniques that have not changed in 2000 years, producing wines with intense colour and flavour. Selected from a number of top quality vineyards, including Warre's own Quinta da Cavadinha, the company's Vintage Port is aged in wooden cask for 18 months before being bottled unfiltered using a normal driven cork.
Wine & Spirits(1997 Vintage) An unprecedented low yield contributed to the marvelous concentration of the wines produced in this vintage. The very low bunch weight and the fact that the berries themselves were very small also meant that there was much less juice than usual relative to the amount of skins. Consequently even more extraction of color and flavors was possible than in other years. Ideal weather during the vintage, with cool nights followed by hot days, added the finishing touch to the variety of factors which culminated in a classic year. At least 5 years (we recommend up to 20) in the cellar will reward the purchaser with a great wine.
Wine Spectator(2007 Vintage) "Offers lovely perfumed aromas and beautiful raspberry and blackberry character, turning to tar, black truffle and wet earth. Full-bodied and medium sweet, with a balance of very chewy tannins and sugary fruit at the finish. This goes on and on. The great 1994 again? Best after 2020. 6,500 cases made."
