(From 2010 Vintage) This, combined with the cooling influence we benefit from here in the Templeton Gap, would provide us with an opportunity to produce Syrah that truly did justice to the site and the inherent tendencies of the varietal. Then along comes the cool vintage of 2010 and the stars align. At 95% Syrah and 5% Grenache from our estate vineyard the 2010 Akasha is truly a special wine. Now that we are keeping all of our fruit, we were able to increase the percentage of Syrah from an east facing block grown in soils with the highest level of free lime on the property. This allows us to make a wine that is remarkably deep and rich while maintaining freshness and vibrancy that is not necessarily commonplace among new world Syrah.
