(From 2010 Vintage) This wine is classic cool climate syrah with elegance and balance. On the palate, pure flavors of dried raspberry, blueberry with hints of cola nut that is framed by spice. Whole cluster fermentation enhances the distinctive pepper notes.
Connoisseurs' Guide to California WinesThis wine is the most widely available of the mid-priced Qupe bottlings reviewed here, and it shows very well. Its keen first focus on youthful fruit redolent of black cherries and dried plums and dollop of background richness reminiscent of a fresh baked pie crust place it squarely on track, and its firm, never hard, feel on the palate is balanced against its underlying fruit and oak to keep the wine lively and long. Enjoyable today, it will be even better in five years' time.
