Dark red-ruby. Penetrating aromas of cassis, blackberry and licorice, with a mineral firmness that carries through onto the palate. This highly concentrated zin began a bit brutal but turned thick and creamy with aeration, while maintaining lovely lift from its licorice and orange peel flavors.
(From 2011 Vintage) This wine performed extremely well as soon as it was bottled, never going through a period where it was shut-down. It showed its typical creamy texture almost immediately, which usually takes a year or two to develop in bottle. Its brambly ripe fruit meshes seamlessly with the spice and white pepper which is the trademark of Howell Mountain. Beautifully dark in color, the wine possesses balance throughout and finishes with silky, fine-grained tannins. This wine drinks remarkably well now but has the structure to last many years
