(2011 Vintage) The wine is fermented in stainless steel tanks at 77° F), followed by maceration on the skins for 15-20 days and malolactic for 7 days. The wine is then aged for one year in oak (80% Slavonian barrels, 20% barriques). All of the barriques are made of French Oak. 10-20% of the barriques are new and the remain percent are 2nd year barriques. Finally, the wine is aged in the bottle for 6. With the release of the 2009 vintage Monte Antico is extending the bottle age to a full 12 months!
cessna700 - 4/7/2011 Rating: 84 Decent wine for a social setting. Not as good as 2006 but letting it open up allows it to get some legs. dave_from_MD - 4/6/2011 Rating: 87 It's when I read reviews like those regarding this wine that I realize that I must not know much about wine because I like this one! I thought it had a nice dark fruit nose. The mild tannins and acidity are balanced. Fruit and cola on the palate. Snoman - 4/1/2011 Rating: 84 Passable, but a big letdown from the 2006. Basic flavors are there, but less dense to the point of being almost incipid, with an ascerbic entry and back palate. Thin mouthfeel, weak nose. Still, works as a basic food wine, but even at this price point there are many better. Too bad. KSWinegeek - 3/31/2011 Rating: 85 Agree with other reviewers. Not as good as the '06, but still a good everyday wine. gbbwino - 3/31/2011 Rating: 85 At $9/bottle, good QPR. Not overly complex, but has some nice features. Humanbit - 3/29/2011 Rating: 84 Good for price, every day drinker. nearlymonolith - 3/5/2011 Rating: 83 Relatively smooth, enjoyable as a food pairing, not sure I'd love it to enjoy on it's own. Would buy again at a lowish price, but probably a different vintage. Mr.Spock - 2/28/2011 Rating: 86 perfect table wine with your pasta and marinara sauce... gets the job done jbrater - 2/27/2011 Rating: 85 The sangiovese fruit shines through, and good blend of fruits, but it falls flat in the middle of the taste and doesn't have enough tannic structure to pick it up again at the finish. This is good, but not as good as 06 nor as i had hoped it'd be.
