Matanzas Creek Sauvignon Blanc Sonoma County

Wine Details

Wine Description

A blend of 87% Sauvignon Blanc and 13% Sauvignon Musque. Mother Nature was very kind in 2007. Not too warm, yet warm enough for the grape to flourish. These perfect growing conditions allowed for a long growing season resulting in optimal ripeness. Preserving the aromatics of this grape throughout the winemaking process is challenging, but we are able to continue to craft a truly refined Sauvignon Blanc rich with character.

Vastly preferred over its older mate listed below, this bright and well-defined bottling starts with properly grassy, green-melon aromas and follows with bright, citrus and herb flavors. A touch on the stiff and angular side at the moment and thus suited to service with shellfish in the immediate term, it should smooth out with time in the cellar and should hold nicely over the next two or three years.

Pale yellow. Nervy aromas of lime, lemongrass and minerals, plus a subtle floral quality. Avoids the herbal qualities of most sauvignon blancs and displays a steely, focused character. Taut citrus and green apple flavors carry no excess weight and are complicated by a subtle anise quality. Impressively pure and focused, with very good finishing lift and persistence.
