2007 Joseph Phelps Vineyards Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley

Winemaker's Notes

(From 2010 Vintage) The 2010 Cabernet Sauvignon is ultra-concentrated both in the nose and on the palate with aromas of blueberry, dark plum and Black Mission fig followed by cardamom, nutmeg, graphite, tobacco and vanilla bean. The sweet tannins are intertwined with flavors of anise, caramel cream, spicy black pepper and crushed blackberries, contributing to the long, lush finish.

(From 2000 Vintage) Always a reliable producer, Phelps has done well with its effort from the questionable 2000 vintage. This wine reflects so much of the year in its clean, appropriately focused if somewhat quiet aromas and flavors. Tannins dry it out a bit at the end, but it will work well with steaks and chops.
  • Connoisseurs' Guide to California Wines
(From 2004 Vintage) There is a strong sense of muscle and fruity mass about this bottling right from the start, and, while it is not cast in the tough and sturdy style that is often the norm from Backus Vineyard, the wine is every bit as rich and well-filled as any of its noteworthy predecessors. It shows a pronounced trim of milk chocolate and vanilla running its length, but it is driven first and foremost by a generous and wonderfully constant measure of juicy, currant and black cherry fruit.
